This year, we received a total of 96 applications. After careful and thorough review by the Akademos board members, we shortlisted and interviewed 24 students, among them 18 girls and 6 boys from both Mariabad and Hazara Town. Akademos board members video-interviewed the selected students for a total of over 15 hours, during which we asked them to answer a range of questions about their academic record, financial and social circumstances, extra-curricular activities, social activities, and their future aspirations. A majority of the students have impressive academic records and yet face substantial socioeconomic hurdles which prevent them from reaching their full academic potential. In finalising our selection, we have given due consideration to both academic record and the compelling circumstances – not just one.
As a small community based student-oriented organization with finite resources, we regret that we can only offer a limited number of scholarships. Among the selected 12 students for Akademos Scholarship 2018-2019 are aspiring engineers, doctors, web designers and social activists, all of whom hail from working class families in both Marriabad and Hazara Town. They are:

10 – Samina Shabbir – Pre-Medical student at Hassan Musa College
11- Sana Mehdi – Pre-Engineering student at the Garrison Academy

“As a student, | have taken part in quizes, Maths competitions, Quetta Model UN, and spelling competitions. I have played basketball at school and excelled in my studies. Given my difficult background, I have to overcome many challenges to continue my education. This scholarship will enable to me to do just that.”
“The financial problem made me think about pong school in year 8 but i persisted. I remained a position holder throughout my
classes. This scholarship is a chance for me to stop worrying and continue my studies. I aspire to study neuroscience and i hope to become a useful person for the society.”
“It has been my childhood dream to become a doctor. I have worked hard and gained good grades to get this far but i need to go further. I have been a position-holder and a debater. I have taken part in numerous school events. Given my difficult financial circumstances, this scholarship will enable me to work hard and realise my dreams. ”
“My father’s passing hag made it very difficult for me to continue my studies. We face many financial difficulties but we do not have any supporters. This scholarship will enable me to pursue my dreams, become an engineer and a responsible member of the society. ”
“My father was wounded in a terrorist attack. He has struggled to support me and my siblings in our academic pursuits. This scholarship will enable me to get a better education and access better opportunities. i aspire to become a doctor and a useful person for the society,”
“Thig scholarship will help me face the financial challenges, pursue my educational goals, and avoid becoming a burden on my family. My father’s medical condition prevents him from supporting me and my siblings. It is my dream to become an IT professional, and i must not give up on my dreams. ”
“I believe that learning hag greater value than prayer. I wish to 2018-2019 learn more and help my family and the society. With this scholarship, i will be able to enrol into a good college, pay for my educational expenses, and get a good education. I will be able to overcome the difficulties caused by our difficult financial circumstances.”
